Single-line diagram of a 110/20 kV substation, drawn by Electra in PowerGridTools. The external grid feeds the 110 kV busbar N1; circuit breaker CB1 connects it to busbar B1, and transformer T1 steps down to the 20 kV busbar B2. B2 supplies load L1, induction motor M1, capacitor bank C1 and solar array PV1; generator G1 on busbar N2 connects to B2 through circuit breaker CB2. One tool from the first sketch to the report

The single-line diagram is the model: every analysis reads it, and every result comes back to it.

  1. Single-line editor

52 component types, from external grids and generators to relays, converters and HVDC links, on as many pages as the network needs.

  2. Results on the diagram

Load-flow and short-circuit results appear next to the elements they belong to, and the drawing stays editable.

  3. Exchange formats

Import IEEE CDF, PSS/E RAW and DYR, CGMES and PowerFactory DGS; export PSS/E RAW, CGMES, SVG and DXF.

  4. Reports

Study reports as PDF, Word or Excel; NFPA 70E arc-flash labels and energized work permits.

  5. Study cases

Keep variants of a network as study cases and compare their results side by side.

  6. Your project drive

Projects are saved to your private drive on the server, which starts with 5 sample networks drawn by Electra: the WSCC 9-bus and the IEEE 14-, 30-, 57- and 118-bus systems, each with the conversation in which it was drawn.

How a study works

Four sheets, one model: the single-line diagram you draw is what every analysis reads and every report documents.

  1. Sheet 1 of 4

    Draw or import

Place components on the single-line diagram, or import a network from IEEE CDF, PSS/E, CGMES or DGS.

  2. Sheet 2 of 4

    Check

Before an analysis runs, the network is validated, and problems such as missing data are reported with the element they belong to.

  3. Sheet 3 of 4

    Analyse

Run the study. The engine computes on PowerGridTools servers; results appear on the diagram and in result tables.

  4. Sheet 4 of 4

    Report

Export the report as PDF, Word or Excel, and the diagram as SVG or DXF.

Electra

An assistant that works in your drawing

Electra uses 61 application tools to build, check and analyse the diagram you have open, instead of telling you which menus to click.

  • Draws networks from a description or from data
  • Checks the design
  • Runs analyses and explains the results
  • Fixes violations
  • Sizes cables
  • Compares scenarios

Electra works on the drawing you have open, in the browser app and in the desktop clients.

Calculations are made by the PowerGridTools engine, not by the language model

Please build it yourself from the data, element by element (batches are fine), rather than importing the file. What I need:

    - Fourteen buses named exactly as in the data, "Bus 1" to "Bus 14". Use the usual nominal voltages of this case: 132 kV for Bus 1 to Bus 5, 33 kV for Bus 6 and Bus 9 to Bus 14, 1 kV for Bus 7 (the star point of the three-winding transformer) and 11 kV for Bus 8.
    - The fifteen lines with their resistance, reactance and total line charging from the data, converted from per unit on the 100 MVA base into whatever units the line takes.
    - The five transformers (4-7, 4-9, 5-6, 7-8 and 7-9) with their reactances and the off-nominal tap ratios 0.978, 0.969 and 0.932. In this format the tap ratio belongs to the first bus of the branch (the tap bus), so please make sure the ratio ends up on the right side.
    - Bus 1 as the swing source at 1.06 pu. The generator at Bus 2 with 40 MW, a voltage set point of 1.045 pu and reactive limits from -40 to 50 Mvar. The synchronous condensers at Bus 3, Bus 6 and Bus 8 as generators with zero active power, their voltage set points (1.01, 1.07 and 1.09 pu) and their reactive limits from the data.
    - The eleven loads with their MW and Mvar values, and the shunt capacitor of 19 Mvar (0.19 pu susceptance) at Bus 9.
    - A readable layout in the spirit of the textbook one-line diagram: the 132 kV network in the upper part with Bus 1 at the top left, the transformers in the middle, and the 33 kV network in the lower part, with lines that do not cross needlessly and labels that do not overlap.

When everything is drawn, run the design check and fix whatever it reports until it is clean.

Your engineering work, protected

The browser receives the user interface only. Calculations, accounts and files stay on PowerGridTools servers.

Your computer

Your browser

Runs the user interface after you sign in. It contains no analysis engine.

PowerGridTools servers

The PowerGridTools platform

Holds your account and your drive, checks every request and forwards analyses to the engine.

The analysis engine

An internal service that is not reachable from the internet. It accepts only requests signed by the platform.

  • The engine stays on our servers

Your browser runs the user interface; the analysis engine runs only on PowerGridTools servers and is never sent to your computer.

  • A private drive per user

Each account has its own storage area with a quota. Paths are confined to it, and downloads are always delivered as attachments.

  • Accounts and sessions

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes, sessions are protected against cross-site requests, and sign-in attempts are rate-limited.

Security and data protection
